What does a solar battery do?

A solar battery system is a large battery that you have installed at home to store energy generated by your solar panels.. The battery can then discharge the stored energy for use in your home at a time when electricity can’t be generated such as night-time or on days with poor weather. A solar battery system helps you make savings on your electricity bills and ensures that more of the energy you are using is renewably generated.

Will I lose my feed in tariff payments?

If you currently receive feed in tariff payments for the electricity you generate with your solar PV, they will not be affected if you install a home battery system.

Do solar batteries work with any solar panel?

Different home battery storage systems may be either AC coupled of DC coupled. A DC coupled battery system, locates the battery between your panels and the inverter (which converts DC electricity to AC electricity for use in the home. DC coupled systems are more thermodynamically efficient, as you only convert DC to AC electricity once.

What size solar battery do I need?

The size of soalr battery you would need depends on how much energy your home uses. A small battery would be around 2.5kWh whereas a larger battery would be 5.2kWh. Some battery storage systems are scalable allowing you to add batteries to the initial battery installation. A scalable battery solution could go as high as 17kWh with teh Fox Cube battery solution.

Can a solar battery be installed outside?

Some manufacturers of solar batteries design their products to be installed either inside the home or outside. If you are limited to space installing a solar battery inside you could opt for an external battery to save space. The installer would ensure if the battery was installed outside it would be installed so its safe from any potential flooding.
